No, eating 8 times a day does not help you lose weight. It does not boost your metabolism. Not eating every 4 hours is not going to put your body into "starvation mode" and decrease your metabolism rate. Weightloss is all about energy in vs energy out. If you are consuming more than your body require, your body is going to store the excess energy as fat. To lose weight you need to create an energy deficit or in other words consuming less than your body require, your body is going to use stored energy in your body and that is how you lose weight. It is as simple as that.
I hate bull shit myths like these that women magazines put out because I was once one of the silly believers. But seriously, who has the time and convenience to prepare or even eat 8 meals a day? I know I have better things to do.
I know there are people who swear by "eating 8 small meals a day", yes they lose weight, but not because they ate 8 meals, it's because they ate less in general. Say your body needs 2100kcal per day to maintain its weight, it doesn't matter if you split 2100kcal into 10 meals, 8 meals, or 3 meals. 2100kcal is 2100kcal. Also, I want to throw bricks at people who say shit like "don't eat after 6PM/7PM/8PM you will gain weight". No. The 500kcal bowl of noodles will not become 8943698643kcal after 6PM/7PM/8PM. Please do not spread bull shit like this. Myths like these are why so many girls form an unhealthy relationship with food.
A lot of people also know exercise aids weight loss but they don't really know why or how. When you exercise you use extra energy, so, say you need 2100kcal to maintain your weight and since you burned 300 kcals from exercising you now have an "extra" 300kcals added to your daily energy requirement. In other words, your body now require 2400kcal to maintain its weight that day. If you eat the same amount of food like you always do you will still have an energy deficit.
Also, on starvation mode: studies have been carried out where a group of people do not eat for 3 days. Guess how much their metabolism rate drop? ONLY 8 FREAKING %.
At the end of the day, don't be too hung up on calorie counting, it will consume you. Eat a healthy, balanced diet. & also just eat when you're hungry and stop when you're full.
(Y) preach it sister.
